First Grandchild, Josh, Graduates WCHS With Top Honors

I rubbed my old iron over the wrinkles
in the black robe - over and over.
Finally, "Well, that looks a little better," I thought.
My mom and dad had arrived
at our home that afternoon from Caldwell.
Their first grandchild and our firstborn
was graduating from Ogden High School that evening.
Rick donned his robe
and we stepped out on our porch to take pics.
That's when it hit me like a thunder bolt -
maybe it was triggered
by my mom and dad being there -
"I have a kid graduating from high school.
How can that be when I just graduated last week?"
It was such a distinct realization -
a defining moment in time.

Skip ahead to 2014 -
Rick's firstborn and our oldest grandchild
graduated on May 31 from WCHS.

We are so proud of our oldest grandchild!
Besides being the nicest, kindest, funnest,
spiritual young man ever -
he is a Brainiac!
He received Honor Cords for science, English, math,
athletics and academia.
The medal is for his Regents Scholarship
and he received a 1/2 tuition scholarship to BYU.
He was on the All-State Academics Tennis Team.
He graduated having earned straight A's
throughout his entire education -
out of a class of over 400, only 11 other kids achieved this.

Josh's fabulous family

Josh's awesome siblings

Mom and Dad extraordinaire!

Josh is in front of the Woods Cross Stake Center
where the graduation was held.
It used to be the Valley Music Hall.

Filing in, two at a time, to Pomp and Circumstance,
here comes Josh!

I love that cute face!

After the ceremony, the graduates had to turn in their robes,
but we got pics with Josh in the parking lot.
Bart couldn't come to the ceremony,
but Grandma Kathy, Jodie's mom, was there.

Proud Grandma Pam and Grandpa Roger

Grandpa Bart met up with us at the house.

Josh's grandmas agree -
this is one special kid!

There is much to follow about this trip up north -
Stay tuned!

  5. A half scholarship? What's a guy gotta do to get a full scholarship?! You can't even see if he has clothes under all those cords & medals!

Seriously - congratulations, Josh. We couldn't ask for a better example for your cousins (+ your brother & sisters!) to look up to. I can't wait to see what you do in the next chapters of your life. The best is yet to come.

Also, hurry and graduate college so we can all start riding your coattails.
