On The Road Again . . . TO BOISE!

Jared is 12!
Coolest thing about that is
he gets to receive the Aaronic Priesthood!
We were tickled to go to Boise so Grandpa Roger could stand in the circle.
We left on Thursday afternoon, May 30, to go half-way to Ogden.
We took Grandma Strat out to dinner at the new Longhorn restaurant for a belated Mother's Day treat, then they dropped me off at Jessica's for her to color and cut my hair.

Bless her!
She will do it any time, anywhere we can both get to, day or night - and has done so in the past!

We had a nice visit with Grandma past midnight -
she was still going strong and Roger was falling asleep.
She is amazing and pretty much looks and acts the same.
She never ages!

We got up in the morning and drove to Boise.  When we arrived, Pam and Wendell were already there, so we visited, then went to dinner at Primo's, Jared's pick.

One of the reasons the kids love to go to Primo's is to play the coin-operated games.
It's not just the pizza, which, by the way, is great, especially if you custom order thin crust cheeseburger, Hawaiian, the Southwest and the German chocolate with crushed Oreos dessert pizza is to die for! It's a buffet, so they keep cranking them out, and you can have a bite of this and a bite of that until you are so full you roll out of there!
Anyway, I digress.
Probably the game with the worst odds to win is the one with the giant clamp hand
that you try to get to snag one of the toys.
SAM WON this cute Dalmation puppy and he gave it to Anderson!
And, I'll be darned, a few minutes later, he won a teddy bear that he gave to Ellie (with a little bit of coaxing)!
What are the odds?
Really.

Sam and Jared played their piano pieces for us -
Sam wanted to learn, In Dream, from Lord of the Rings.
so he got the music and he learned it fast.
It's great when kids can play what they like, though I know they have to learn the fundamentals, too.

I got to read a bedtime story to Anderson.
He has come such a long way in his verbalizing -
he can now talk your head off! So cute!

Jared received the Priesthood after the block, and he was called up in Sacrament meeting and recited perfectly his favorite Article of Faith, the 13th.
We are so proud of him!

Here are the boys after we got back to Jedd and Missy's.

Missy's baby is due August 22.
Roger hopes she will be born on his birthday, the 27th!

Miss Ellie is thrilled that she will be getting a SISTER!

Well, there is one more to add to our list of Great Grillers - Jedd!

Grilled hamburgers, salmon and hot dogs - yum! - with Smiths Baked Beans (such a good recipe!), watermelon, sautéed mushroom and onions for the burgers and chips were all delicious! We brought tomatillo salsa from Mesa (We get it from the man who makes, then sells it at his home from a frig on his front porch - you just leave the exact change and help yourself!) and we brought Grandma Tobler's potato salad - so good!  The other Grandma Pam brought three kinds of homemade cupcakes, Key lime and chocolate silk frozen pies.

We have been going from one feast to another!
I see lots of steamed and grilled veggies and salads in our future!

Monday, before we left Boise, we went to lunch at this Diners, Drive-ins and Dives pick,
Westside Drive-in in the downtown area.

Delicious sweet potato fries with a sweet dipping sauce, and the burgers and Blue Plate Special were yummy!

I heard a woman order from her car a blast from the past
finger steaks (a Boise original) and a green river (a non-carbonated lime soft drink).
It's a huge memory -
my getting green rivers at the Hi-Pop Inn hamburger stand across from Jefferson Junior High.
If I'd have realized they had them, I would have ordered one.

We traveled to Rick's house in North Salt Lake and arrived at 6 pm.
Soon after, Josh arrived with Mandarin take-out, Rick's (and pretty much everyone's) favorite
to celebrate his birthday, which was that day.
When I walked in, Kathie, who was there for dinner, said,

"I know what you were doing 44 years ago.
Having a baby!"

Jodie made homemade Key lime pie (if you haven't noticed, it's a family favorite and it's Rick's favorite, too) and it was delicious!
We spent a fun evening seeing Rick and Jodie's pics from their trip to Holland to see the tulips
and to Prague and hearing the details.

Next day we met up with Karleen at Olive Garden at the American Fork exit,
and heard about her trip in April to Russia.
She traveled with a neighbor couple and stayed in Moscow
with their son and family, who are living there for awhile.
She also visited St. Petersburg.
She had a marvelous trip, and we compared notes as to how it is now
versus how it was when we visited there in 1988.

There have been many changes, mostly for the good.
We love to meet up with our dear friend whenever we get a chance.

So now, the bit weary travelers will be home for a couple of weeks before we will head to Lake Powell
with Roger's classmates on Jerry's houseboat.

It's kinda nice to be home!

  1. You two have had a super busy summer thus far and it is only the beginning! That is great timing that you were able to be on hand for both Sam's Priesthood ordination and Rick's birthday celebration! You have such cute grandkids!

  2. That's so great that you get to support your kids and grandkids in all their milestones. Wish we could have seen you while you were in Boise.
