June - It's Hot!

With record heat in St. George and all around us, I, the heat wimp of the world, pretty much stayed in the air-conditioning in June, walking on the tread mill for my exercise. The heat doesn't slow Roger down and he carried on with his golf, pickle ball, running, softball team and core-training exercise.

We've committed to Wednesdays to work on our next and last combined personal history book, which begins in 1985. I have made a book of my history until we married, and we have made a combined personal history book of us from marriage up until we moved into our new home in Ogden in 1985, which included the birth of or five kids and the marriage of all of our siblings. I had a few journals and other writings to refer to for that one. This book will be mostly a photo book, highlighting special events and travel. Our Stratford Scoop family newsletter was begun in 1999, which records our history until I began this blog, Pipes of Pam, which records from there up to the present. The more time goes by, the fuzzier our memories are getting, so we're on it!

Roger worked for Murdock Travel from 1978 until up through the 1990s, and we were spoiled by being upgraded to 1st class travel on the airlines much of the time. I made a travel book of each exciting place on sticky pages albums. They are a great source of information, but we've tried to rescue the photos and scan them. The contrast of film photography to digital photography is startling! But we're just grateful we have some photo record of those years! Here are some of the books we are working on now for our next history book.

Here is a sampling of some of the pics we are digitalizing:

Okay, back to the present. Roger golfed with his foursome every Monday at Sunbrook, and went to Coyote Springs, Nevada, for a special day outing with Loran replacing Derral. It is an hour and a half drive from St. George toward Las Vegas, and Roger says it's a great golf course!

Rick invited Roger to golf with him and son, Josh, at The Ledges while they were here with Jodie's Family Reunion. In this pic, he drove the green and was about to putt for an Eagle.

Our dear friend from Ogden, Kent Peterson, invited us to his 90th Birthday Celebration. He invited me to go to Israel and sing with the Kay Starr Singers and the Israel Orchestra years ago, and every time he travels to St. George, he calls and invites us to dinner.
We drove to Ogden on Monday, and when we arrived at the party, we saw sooo many of our Ogden friends and neighbors! It was wonderful chatting and catching up with them and Kent was very tickled that we had come up from St. George.

We didn't think to take any pics, but these sisters, Terri and Diana Pace, were so tickled to see us because Terri knew our son, Rick, and Diana was our daughter, Stacy's, friend.
After the party, we drove out to Warren to visit Chyrrl, Roger's sister, and to give her a belated birthday gift, then drove to visit Susie in West Haven, and gave her a birthday gift, her birthday was the day before. We love to catch up with those two - they're both so upbeat and loving!  Jessica did my hair the next morning, then we headed for home, stopping for make-up at Sephora and groceries at Trader Joe's along the way.

It was our turn to host Gamer Night that week-end.

Our games were a Hygge game Joan and Tom gave us for Christmas after our Back to our Roots sibling trip to Scandinavia. Hygge is a Danish word meaning cozy gathering, and we passed around and answered random getting-to-know-you questions, and the sharing was sometimes funny and sometimes poignant and heart-warming. The other game was a music game where a word was spun on a wheel, and the team was timed to come up with a song with that word, then sing a phrase of it (the girls won!). After each song, Roger pulled it up on Spotify on his phone, which was hooked up to a small speaker, and we all sang it. Because we're all around the same age, we knew the music and it was fun to sing together!

June and summertime were/are definitely slower than springtime. I've said it many times and I'll say it again - air conditioning is my favorite invention of the 20th Century!
