One of our most anticipated happenings is a visit from our dear friend, Karleen.
We have been close friends for many years and we enjoy so many of the same things.
We have gotten into the routine of her coming to visit in the fall
and going to the Shakespeare Festival in Cedar City.
We always have so much to catch up on and pretty much talk non-stop for three days.
We forgot to take very many pics this year, but Roger took this one on Monday after Karleen's arrival
and after we had just eaten a chili supper, John Rich's (a guy in our branch) famous recipe.
It really is the best chili ever!
Karleen's favorite food is Mexican and Southwestern.
We spent Tuesday in Cedar City, first enjoying a matinee of a new adaptation of George M. Cohan's The Tavern.
It is a comedy starring a talented physical comic, Andrew May,
who played a vagabond who has a passion for Shakespeare.
That evening we saw William Shakespeare's Long Lost Play, which is the story of "an ancient manuscript
being discovered in a treasure-filled parking lot in Leicester, England (referencing King Richard the Third's bones
being found there in 2012).
It weaved together most of Shakespeare's famous speeches in Shakespeare's 39 plays
and was performed by three very talented actors, but it was utter madness
and a bit too irreverent, with over the top sexual innuendo.
I think CC's Shakespeare Festival is trying to be cutting edge, but this one went a little far.
On Wednesday, Karleen and I went through the St. George Art Museum together,
enjoying Stewart Seidman's off-beat paintings of collage and paint
and Ron Larson's vistas of the Colorado Plateau.
This year we decided to go to Tuacahn our last evening together, and we saw
We loved it!
It was a sold-out crowd and we were bouncing to the beat throughout the Abba music.
The singing, acting, dancing and sets were all tops!
It was a great way to end our fun visit together.
Roger and I love this fun music!
We made a quick emergency trip up north for me to have what I thought would be a new crown made
when I "broke" my tooth.
Nephew dentist Sam said I just needed a new filling - yay!
We stayed with Lois and it turned into a fun time being with her!
She took us to a fun new place for dinner, Ohana.
The food was beautifully-presented. This is coconut shrimp with a carrot butterfly garnish.
we went for a ride up Sardine Canyon next day to see the leaves,
then went to Lois's favorite place for lunch, Chuck-A-Rama.
Jessica did my hair, then we drove back to St. George that evening.
So we recently got to spend quality time with two people we love - catching up time with Karleen
and some upbeat, happy time with Roger's mom!
I'm glad your tooth just needed a filling. It looks like fun times!
ReplyDeleteI love Karleen! What a fun fall tradition! Glad you got to spend some more time with Grandma - I bet that drive was beautiful. That Ohana looks like my kind of restaurant. :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun tradition with Karleen every year - going to the Shakespeare Festival, a musical at Tuachan and the Art Museum! Your area has so much to offer, but it is you and Roger that make it "A Tourist Destination"! You are both so warm and hospitable! I'm glad your dental work was minimal and that you had a great visit with Lois!
ReplyDeleteI love Karleen...what a fun tradition you have to be able to get together for the Shakespeare Festival each year. I love Mama Mia too and I can just picture you and Karleen and Dad grooving to the great music in that musical. Tuacahn is such a great venue to have so close to your home. They always do such a good job! I am glad your tooth just needed a filling! The photo of Sardine canyon is amazing! Those fall colored leaves are amazing!
ReplyDeleteBest friend time is always so fun!! I love that you continue to make this happen. That Fall drive looks beautiful and it's always awesome spending time with Grandma.
