Happy Birthday, Dear Charlie! One Year Old!

Lucky Roger and I!

We got to celebrate Mindy and Jeff's, Charlie, turning one year's old -
in Houston, with him!

It all started when we had 2 for 1 Delta tickets that had to be used before they expired.  We have talked about visiting our old haunts along the Gulf Coast ever since Mindy and Jeff moved to Houston.

Roger was a pilot in the Air Force 40 years ago and one of the places we were stationed was at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi. In those good old days, we ventured off on several day trips east and west from Biloxi to New Orleans and to the white sand beaches of Florida with our baby, Ryan, who was born there, and our little toddler, Ricky.

Great memories!

So we cooked up a 5-day trip out of Houston.
When Mindy heard the plans, she said, "I want to go!"

That's what put us in Houston Saturday, May 4, where Mindy picked us up at the George Bush Airport.
Next Morning, we attended Mindy and Jeff's ward, where Mindy taught her primary class (very well, I might add) and I helped.  It was kinda fun to be in a primary class again.

We took this pic of their cute family after church.

We were so tickled to be with these guys!

Charlie's eyes are enormous!

His little red velvet cake was on display.

Addie wanted to know where her little cake was.  I am explaining that the big cake is for her and to share with everyone.  It took lots of explanation, but she finally got it!

Go high, Grandpa!

Those pretty white blonde natural curls drove us crazy!
Mindy just wets her hair, combs and scrunches, and tight ringlets appear!

Jeff is the Master Barbequer!
Now, I don't use that term lightly!

We had Southwest buffalo burgers with avocado cream sauce, grilled asparagus, pineapple and salsa and chips.

Jeff's brother, Gary, is getting advanced degrees at Rice in Houston, and he, his wife, Sharon, and their two cute kids were able to come to Charlie's celebration.
We dished up . . .

. . . then ate out on their patio.

The big cake was a cinnamon streusel, and, as you can tell by the pic, it was delicious!

Miss Addie is a charmer . . and, dare I say, even a little bewitcher!
Grandpa immediately fell under her spell!

She shares a secret with Grandpa.

Mr. Jack has his own special brand of spell-binding charm, too!
Precious kids!

Charlie wakes up from his nap after church, and it's time to party!

Charlie gets a lot of help opening up his gifts.

Wow, blocks!

The blocks were popular with all of the kids.  What a tower!

BYU paper from Grandma and Grandpa can only mean one thing . . .

. . . a future Cougar shirt!

Time to blow out the candle.

That flame looks intriguing . . .

. . . yikes, don't touch the fire, Charlie!

Yum!

This grab a handful of cake and eat it stuff is pretty good!

Next morning, our grand adventure to the Gulf Coast begins.  Stay tuned . . .
